Basal Metabolic Rate Calculator
What brought up the topic of the basal metabolic rate calculator? I am so glad you asked!
The family and I were sitting around discussing our daily Caloric intake needs, and I was suddenly struck with the revelation.
WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT!
Of course this isn't a terribly new revelation. It is more that I just don't think we as a society necessarily focus on it very often. Everything you read says, "based on a 2000 Calorie diet."
...As if 2000 Calories is the magic number we are all supposed to be consuming.
With my oldest daughter being 20% lighter than me, and my husband being 20% heavier than me, how can we all need the same number of Calories? Obviously we can't. And that is just mentioning body size. It doesn't even bring into the equation all the differing and various activities that we all do.
Enter, the basal metabolic rate calculator (or BMR calculator, for short). Your "basal metabolic rate" is just a fancy way of saying "your metabolism". As fancy-shmancy as you want to get, all the big words don't really tell us what it is.
According to the University of Chicago's Physiological and Biochemical Zoology (77(6):869–876. 2004.),"BMR is the metabolic rate of an adult animal at rest in a thermoneutral environment and a postabsorptive state."
Wow. That is a mouthful! But basically, it just means WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT! It also means you can just put your information into the table below, and find out how many Calories you should be eating in order to simply stay alive.
