Best Aerobic Exercise

The best aerobic exercise really depends on your current physical condition. Whether you are a "Newbie", or an old pro, there is an exercise for you out there.

For the beginner:

Are you a beginner to a fitness program (having checked with your doctor, of course!) but you're ready to try something physical?

Maybe you have lead a sedentary lifestyle up to this point? (That just means that - perhaps in spite of the best intentions to stay or get fit - you have lapsed into a less active lifestyle.)

If so, then you need to start simple and take it in baby steps. You don’t want to overdo it and get discouraged from extreme soreness or -worse- get injured!

The best aerobic exercise for you may be simply walking on a nice even road. (Don’t tackle the mountain trails yet.) Go at a pace that challenges you, yet you can keep up for reasonable period.

When I first started out, I had a difficult time merely walking to the park with my kids - and it is only a few short blocks away! I started by simply walking around the block from my house a couple times a day.

...and I would even have to break those up!

Just remember, it is not too late for you and YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

For the first couple of times, just go out and see how long you can walk. Time yourself.

Then add 5 or 10 minutes every few walks after that.

Maybe the best aerobic exercise for you is swimming. Whether you are fit or not, swimming is a great workout. It uses many major muscle groups and keeps the impact of weight off your joints until you get stronger.

Even folks who are not overweight, but may not have worked their muscles in a while could sustain injury from simply being jumping into a workout regimen too quickly.

For the more advanced:

Are you physically fit, and trying to find the best aerobic exercise to amp up your routine? Try the bleachers at your local high school.

I like to run (you could also walk) a set of bleachers (one up, one down) then run (or speed walk) the track. You will love the calorie burn and various muscle groups these two exercises target together.

A good way to find the best aerobic exercise for you is to get away from your comfort zone. Do you love the elliptical? Break away from it and try an aerobics class. You will definitely be challenged by working out with a group of people. If you Zumba at the gym, try a turbo kick class, or a step aerobics class.

If you are mainly a strength training enthusiast, you need to make sure you use your cardio 2 or 3 times a week. The main emphasis is to get at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times a week.

If you can do this, you will be well on your way to brining out your inner Fitness Woman!
