Types of Aerobic Exercise



There are more types of aerobic exercise than I can count!

The main thing is to make sure you can keep up your healthy heart rate for an extended period of time.

If you approach your exercises with an "all-or-nothing" attitude, you may very well get frustrated. Put the idea of starting off with running a marathon out of your head and consider something a little more attainable.

If you don't you might just tire yourself out and not really achieve what promises to come with regular types of aerobic exercise.

Find things that interests you, and do those types of aerobic exercises. I started with walking, then jogging, then got into aerobics.

I chose aerobics because I wanted to have an over-all fitness, where I could lose weight, strength train, AND have great cardio.


Just remember:
The reason for doing aerobic exercises
is to reach your target heart rate.



Maybe you are a little nervous about jumping into these types with both feet. I certainly understand. That is why I dedicated an entire section of this site to Step-by-Step Instructions for learning step moves, one at a time.

But even if step routines aren't for you, make sure you do something. Find something, and stick with it.

If you love the great outdoors, you can go for a hike. You can go bicycling. Jogging or speed walking, or a combination, are good types of cardio. (If you are trying to stick with low impact, go with the speed walking.)

If you like to keep it indoors, many gyms offer classes like aqua, step, zumba, kick boxing, turbo kick, cycling, and so many others.

The exercise bike, tread mill, stair stepper, elliptical and rowers are great tools for those who want to workout by themselves. (Though I challenge you to get involved in some kind of group exercise. You will meet some great new friends, and you won't believe how much the group atmosphere creates "good peer-pressure".)

The point is this...

Just pick something and do it with consistency. This is the way of the Fitness Woman!
